Reception
The Reception class provides a gradual transition between the play-based learning of the Nursery and the more structured routines of Year 1. Children in the class are aged between 4 and 5.
We maintain our emphasis on warm friendly interaction with teachers and peers and provide an environment to stimulate and assist learning.
Every child has a learning journey folder to record progress. It provides evidence of what they can do and what they need to achieve next and is accessible to parents. This very individual approach to planning enables us to help each child develop at his or her own pace, and is supported by our high adult-child ratio.
Learning of the phonics and number schemes introduced in the Nursery steadily becomes more structured. French and Music lessons with specialist teachers continue, and the children start Swimming lessons in our school pool. Gym lessons also take place with a specialist teacher.
The confidence and self-assurance our children quickly develop is apparent at Christmas when all the Reception and Nursery children take to the stage and perform in a musical production.
