Core Subjects
The core subjects of Literacy, Numeracy, Science and ICT (information and communication technology) are all introduced in one form or another in the Nursery and Reception. They then continue through the school, although the structure of lessons changes considerably.
Literacy and Numeracy take a central position in the curriculum and each class has daily timetabled lessons. Our levels of achievement in these subjects are high at every level of the school.
For the youngest children, Science lessons involve them considering why things happen like ice and freezing, or washing and evaporation. As they move through the school, they start to plan their own investigations into these ‘why’ questions and interpret results. By Years 5 and 6, they are able to use the science labs in the senior school to conduct practical work.
Children in the Nursery use computers and other technology in their classroom, and from Reception children visit our ICT suite regularly to develop their skills. By the time they leave the school, they are able to use spreadsheets, produce presentations, create and edit film with music, create and manipulate images, and carry out research on the internet.
