Gifted & Talented
Excellence in its widest sense is intrinsic to every activity here. For us, excellence is a broad, egalitarian concept to which everyone can aspire. We encourage our children to aim high and we celebrate gifts and talents across many spheres.
Our gifted and talented database allows us to identify and then monitor every child who has a specific strength or talent – whether it be academic, sporting, artistic or musical. This is important to ensure that these children are provided with the correct activities and challenges to ensure they continue to progress at their level.
How this works in practice will vary. For example, an exceptionally gifted musician might join the senior school orchestra for motivation and to develop strengths. On a more general level, we enter competitions like the Primary Maths Challenge to give our mathematicians the chance to pit themselves against others across the country.
In Juniors, we divide the children into two sets for Literacy and Numeracy lessons so teachers can stretch the more able and give extra help and support to those who find the subjects more difficult.
The ethos of our school is one in which children take pleasure and pride in the achievements of their peers. We celebrate successes in assembly and reward effort and progress as well as achievement.
