Skills Based Curriculum
We have a map of skills we want children to develop within each year group. They include things like: how to plan an investigation, how to interpret results, how to read a map, and how to recognise the difference between chronological periods in history.
The children gain these skills through working on half-termly, cross-curricular topics which include a weekly learning challenge. The topics encompass the humanities, science and the arts and also make use of our location in an area which is rich in historical and geographic interest.
This is an enhancement to what is already a broad and balanced curriculum, including languages, sport and music, not to mention Philosophy in Year 6.
We call it a Curriculum That Matters. It provides the structure within which our children can develop the confidence and independence to question, cultivate and articulate their own opinions and ideas.
