Joining The Mount Junior School
Overview
Most children join us once they reach the age of three. It is possible for them to start when they are slightly older if this is more convenient or suitable for your child. We offer flexible sessions which allow you to build up the number of sessions your child attends as they become ready.
Children can join at any level of the school subject to the availability of places.
Please contact Julia Hampshire, Registrar on 01904 667529 for further information or to arrange a visit or Taster Day.
Step 1 (with forms to be completed)
To secure a place at the Mount Junior School for your child, you need to complete a registration form. We recommend early completion of the form, particularly for young children, to avoid disappointment.
Step 2
On receipt of your registration form and fee, we will confirm the availability of a place and the date your child will be due to start. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis.
In cases where a class is already full, your child’s name will join a waiting list. As places become available, they are offered to those at the top of the list based on date of registration. We operate a siblings policy so, in instances where we have a place for just one child in a family, other children will automatically go to the top of the waiting lists in the relevant classes.
Step 3
Children joining the Nursery may start as soon as they reach the age of three (if they are dry), and do not need to wait for the beginning of a new term.
Before any child starts school, they attend the school for a taster day or, in the case of Nursery children, for one or two morning sessions.
During this session, we take the opportunity to informally assess your child. For Nursery age children, the assessment will provide us with information to help advise you whether we feel your child is ready to start school and how many sessions we believe would be suitable to start with. Some Nursery children start full days immediately but, for others, this may be too tiring or cause distress. We have maximum flexibility to suit your needs and those of your child.
For older children, our informal assessment enables us to identify whether we need to provide any additional support for your child when they join.
