The School Day
Parking
Pedestrian entrance only is available to the Mount Junior Schoo lfrom Dalton Terrace. We regret that parking is not permitted there. Parents wishing to park their cars are asked to use the staff/visitors’ car parks off Driffield Terrace.
Before School Care Facility
Children can be accepted on a regular or occasional basis. Before School Care is available from 7.45am and children arriving before 8.30am should use this facility.
Arriving at school
The safety of our children is paramount at all times so please do not leave children alone before 8.30am. If your child arrives in school before 8.30am you are welcome to wait with him/her on the small playground adjacent to the After School Care room. If you are unable to wait with your child then he/she must go to Before School Care. At 8.30am a member of staff will collect the children from the playground and take them to the relevant classrooms. Children arriving after 9.00am should be taken to their classroom. Parents/carers should then record (in person) the arrival of their child/children with office staff if they are late.
Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 staff will be available each morning between 8.30am and 8.45am if you need to speak to your child’s class teacher. The Key Stage 2 staff will be available from 3.30pm on those days when they are not supervising an extra-curricular activity.
At the end of the school day Reception to Year 3 children will be taken to the playground adjacent to After School Care for collection. Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 will leave their classrooms and meet you independently.
These procedures are designed to improve security, reduce congestion in the Key Stage 2 foyer, increase children’s independence and ensure a prompt start to the day’s lessons.
The end of the day
If the arrangements for collecting your child change for any reason (a different adult from usual collecting or going home with a friend) please let the class teacher know. We prefer children to be met from the Mount Junior School by an adult at the end of the school day. This includes Extra Curricular Activities and After School Care/Prep. In very exceptional circumstances children are allowed to meet parents elsewhere on the premises but this must be pre-arranged with the Head Teacher.
After School Care/Prep Facility
After School Care/Prep is available from 3.30pm to 5.45pm every day. A fee is charged for this facility and sessions should be pre-booked between 8.30am and 8.45am each morning in the Key Stage 2 Foyer. However, we do encourage the older children to book in themselves. Children attending After School Care/Prep may only be collected by a designated carer for that child unless alternative arrangements are communicated to the school in advance. All children must be signed out.
If you are unavoidably delayed please contact After School Care on their mobile telephone and let them know your estimated arrival time. The After School Care mobile number is 07972 221386 (this number is also in the calendar). The Mount Junior School office telephone is directed to an answer service at 5.00pm and will not be checked until the following morning.
If you arrive after 6.00pm, After School Care will have closed and your child will have been transferred to Senior School. Please collect your child via Senior School Reception. After 6.00pm you will need to use the boarding house number to contact the school which is 01904-667514. The car park gates on the first two car parks are locked at 5.45pm for the security of our boarders. If you are on the premises beyond that time please use the third car park (adjacent to the tennis courts).
When you are walking through the school, please do not allow children to run on the grass. We are very proud of our grounds and they do require special care. Also, please be as quiet as possible so as not to disturb Senior School activities, particularly at public examination times. Advance notice of these examinations is given in the weekly bulletin.
