Religious Studies
Religious Studies is one of the fastest growing GCSE courses. Far from having a narrow focus dedicated to study of the Bible, the subject covers religious philosophy and ultimate questions: for example arguments for and against belief in the existence of God, the problem of evil and suffering, morality and religious attitudes to social problems.
The philosophical underpinning and content make it a vibrant and challenging course at The Mount. Our school ethos encourages the girls to have the confidence to express their own opinions and lessons are enlivened with argument and debate.
The groundwork for the subject is covered within Key Stage 3 where the girls gain an understanding of the six major world religions. They also acquire a deeper knowledge of Quakerism through learning about the key concepts of the religion and how these relate to the School.
By Year 9, the girls are introduced to the philosophy of religion, and consider contemporary moral issues like euthanasia, war and peace or genetic engineering.
The A-Level course provides an ideal springboard for those wishing to study ethics, law, philosophy, politics or medicine as well as theology at a higher level.
