Entrance Procedure

Registration:

Girls must be registered before taking part in the entrance procedure. The registration form is included with the prospectus and can also be obtained from Julia Hampshire, Registrar : 01904 667529 or email registrar@mountschoolyork.co.uk

The Mount School Entrance Examination will take place on 17 January 2012.  The School can also arrange for the Entrance Examination to be taken at other times of the year; however Scholarships cannot be awarded unless candidates sit the examination in January 2012.

Entry at age 11 and above (into Years 7 – 10): 

Girls sit our entrance exam and take papers in English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning(for entry to Years 7 – 9 only). The English paper comprises a reading comprehension exercise and a piece of writing; the Mathematics paper (one part to be completed with the use of a calculator and one without) includes a wide variety of questions.  Year 10 candidates take papers in English and Mathematics only.  In addition, the girls attend the school for a taster day when they are interviewed by the Principal. School references and the interview are given weight alongside exam performance.

Entry at 16+ (A level study):

Prospective entrants are invited for interview. There is no examination if the entrants are studying for GCSE or IGCSE. The offer of a place will usually be conditional upon gaining at least 6 GCSE’s at Grade C or above and at least Grade B in the subjects the student wishes to pursue at A Level.  School references and the interview are given weight alongside exam performance.  Prospective pupils who are not studying for GCSE or IGCSE will be expected to take papers in English and Mathematics.
 
Scholarships:
 

Academic and Music Scholarships are available in Year 7; Academic, Art and Design, Music, Drama, and Sport Scholarships are available in Year 9 and are held on the same day as the January Entrance Examinations.  Years 7 and 9 Academic and Subject Scholarships Application forms are available from the Registrar.  Completed applications must be returned to school no later than 31 December 2011, if you wish to apply. 

The Sixth Form Scholarship Day for Academic, Art and Design, Music, Drama, and Sport Scholarships is on 23 November 2011. Please contact the Registrar, Julia Hampshire for an application form. 

Scholarships entitle the holder to a fee remission of 5% per annum to which a means-tested bursary may be added which can be worth up to 100% of fees.
