Boarding Life
Our various boarding options give complete flexibility to every pupil and her family. Whether they are full, weekly or flexi boarders girls receive plenty of help and support from the Housemistresses. The Principal and other staff also live on site. New boarders quickly settle in to our happy, caring environment and enjoy all the fun, independence and camaraderie of boarding school life.
Boarders share bedrooms with their friends and have plenty of storage space for their belongings. They are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own bedding, pictures and other personal items.
Boarders have ample space to relax in the spacious common rooms and are able to use all the school's facilities in the evenings, including the computer rooms, library, art studios and the 16 acres of gardens and grounds.
Leisure activities are carefully planned and organised with the girls’ wishes being taken into account. After school activities are compulsory and girls choose from a huge range of options. Visits are arranged to places of cultural and historic interest as well as theme parks and sporting opportunities. Girls are allowed to go into the city of York for a limited time in groups, according to their age, in their free time. This privilege is carefully regulated and older girls are also allowed out in the evening for specific events.
On Sundays boarders attend a short period of worship or may attend a church of their choice. We make special arrangements for girls of other faiths e.g. for Muslim girls to fast during Ramadan. There is a Quiet Room for prayer or silent reading.
Some of our boarders live very locally and others come from all over the world. The recent school inspection report found that Tolerance and respect for their own and other cultural traditions are very much the norm amongst pupils…. Girls from different cultural traditions bring cultural richness to the school community.
