School House
School House provides a happy home to full, weekly and flexi-boarders from Years 7-11. The girls (currently 30) and four resident staff occupy three floors directly above the main school and, while the girls benefit from the proximity to school in many ways, the atmosphere once upstairs is of course very different, and they know they’re at home once they walk through the door. We aim for a stimulating home environment which is both challenging and supportive; we want to provide a structure within which our girls can test their strengths and instincts and upon which they can begin to build the values which will see them contribute to the world as spirited thinkers and positive doers. Our House Agreement sets out this aim in more detail. We take very seriously the very great responsibility we undertake when we welcome each new girl into boarding and we are ever conscious of the astonishing and unique value of every one of our girls to this flourishing community.
The Housemistress, Nicola Pentelow, has over ten years’ Boarding and English-teaching experience and is currently head of the PSHE programme at The Mount. She is responsible for the School House boarding community and devotes her time to the challenge of providing ever more excellent care for those whose wellbeing is entrusted to her. Miss Pentelow lives on site with her partner David, a teacher and film-maker, and their two Labradors Ripley (7) and Tallis (6).
The Assistant Housemistress, Emma King, is also a qualified science teacher. The role is non-teaching so Emma is fully dedicated to supporting the Housemistress in the care of the girls and their environment although she is, nevertheless, a source of much learning for the girls.
The House Tutor is PE teacher Rowena Simpson. Miss Simpson is responsible for the care of girls during Prep and spends much time carefully monitoring the girls’ progress and liaising with staff. She is also very much part of the house staff team.
We are, girls and staff, proud of the home we have created together and we invite you to spend some time getting to know us by taking a look through the following pages.
