Extra-curricular Activities

With 16 acres of grounds to play in the girls enjoy a vast range of sporting opportunities.

The Sports Hall, indoor Swimming Pool, Fitness Suite and sports pitches enable girls to swim, play hockey, netball, tennis, athletics, rounders and volleyball.

Optional activities include fencing, judo, dance, football and cross country so there is
something for everyone.

Mount girls currently represent York, North Yorkshire and Great Britain at netball, cross country, biathlon and hockey.

Music and Drama are equally important. The School Hall has a stage complete with state of the art lighting and sound systems and there is also a purpose built drama studio. Girls can take Drama at GCSE and Theatre Studies at A-level, Speech and Drama lessons are very popular and many girls take LAMDA exams as well as taking part in one of the musical or drama productions staged each year.

Musically,  girls are spoilt for choice. The school has a specialist music building equipped with over 15 practice rooms. There are teachers for most instruments and singing and girls have the opportunity to join the choirs, orchestras, wind band, swing band and other musical groups. There are concerts every term and opportunities to play at other school events.

Girls can choose from over 45 activities including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, jewellery making, creative writing, debating, Russian, photography, pottery and Prince’s Trust.

Pupils are also actively involved in PeaceJam, York Youth Council, Model United Nations, World Challenge, York Independent State School Partnership (ISSP) and school charities.
