About Us
An Introduction to The Mount
The Mount School is a Quaker day and boarding school for girls aged 11 to 18 and our Junior School caters for girls aged 3 to 11 and boys from 3 to 7 years.
The Mount School aims to provide a happy, supportive, friendly and creative environment in which pupils can develop their own potential and achieve the highest standards in learning and personal development of which they are capable.
The Mount School's Quaker foundation affirms the spiritual dimension of human nature. By fostering awareness of this ethos, the school endeavours to enrich the lives of the young people in its care. With the Quaker ethos underpinning the school, girls learn to look for 'that of God' in everyone, to respect all members of the school community, to recognise and value the efforts and endeavours of others, to take pleasure in others' success and to go forward in life with a sense of adventure.
To this end the curriculum aims to challenge and broaden the horizons and outlook of all, thus enabling each girl to develop confidence, self-esteem and social awareness. Through ethical and effective business practices, the school aims to run efficiently, be ecologically sound and to support the whole school community.
The extra-curricular life of the school, service to others by supporting charitable causes and an active involvement in the wider community all serve to enhance each pupils personal development.
Why choose a Quaker School?
The Quaker values on which the school was founded continue to underpin life at the Mount today. The calm calm, caring environment which permeates and emanates from our community is frequently identified by visitors as being of great importance to the well-being and all-round development. The Quaker belief that there is 'that of God' in every person means that in our school we aim to ensure that:
- Every learner is approached hopefully.
- Individuals are encouraged to believe in their own ‘immense potentialities’.
- Learning happens most creatively when relationships are based on mutual respect.
- Methods of discipline are based on trust and mutual support and a desire to promote the positive.
- Responsibility is encouraged, as are questioning and exploration, honesty and openness.
