Christmas Celebrations at The Mount

Nativity play 2017

The run up to Christmas in School is always a busy and exciting time.  Over the last fortnight pupils and staff at The Mount have been enjoying getting into the festive spirit.

Last week, Junior School treated us to two fantastic nativity plays ‘The Late Wiseman’ and ‘A Cheesy Tale’.  The occasion was extra special, as for the first time Pre-School children took to the stage alongside the rest of the Junior School. All of the children performed and sang extremely well leaving a smile on the face of everyone in the audience.  Click here to view photos from the nativity.

The Senior School had their turn to perform in a stunning Christmas Concert.  Girls from Year 7 to College treated the audience to a range of musical pieces, from modern day musicals to traditional carols.  Performances came from groups and ensembles, including the full Senior Choir, the Chamber Choir, Flute Group, Clarinet Group, the Orchestra, String Ensemble and the welcome return of Swing Band.  With sprinklings of excellent drama pieces by S7 and S8 girls, it was a truly magical way to ring in the Christmas season. Year 11 girls were well rehearsed for the concert as they had spent the previous evening carolling at York Station, where they raised over £200 for Solving Kids’ Cancer and LearnBags for refugees.

The week ended with the fantastic MSA Christmas Fayre, complete with a visit form Santa’s reindeer.  A host of exquisite shopping stalls and children’s craft kept families entertained throughout the afternoon.  The Fayre was officially opened by Holby City and Game of Thrones actor, Rob Ostlere, who generously gave his time to talk to students about his acting career.  Thank you to all of the hard work the MSA put in to making the Fayre such a success.

This week the whole School enjoyed a Christmas Dinner prepared by our award winning caterers, Wilson Vale.  Junior School hosted a Christmas party complete with party games and Christmas themed arts and craft.  Senior School maths pupils enjoyed making mathematical festive decorations, as well as planning and hosting a Christmas party and Staff and pupils donned their Christmas Jumpers to raise money for the School charities.

On Thursday, Senior School girls were treated to a long standing Mount tradition,  the College Pantomime!  College I girls performed a hilariously entertaining modern day take on the classic fairy tale, Cinderella. Oh yes they did! The seasonal celebrations will conclude on Saturday, as the whole School Community gathers at English Martyr’s Church for the annual Christmas Meeting.

We hope all of our pupils and staff have a restful Christmas and look forward to welcoming you back in the New Year,  Season’s Greetings from all at The Mount School York.
