#GirlsGoGold

GCSE PE students enjoyed an incredible trip to the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield for the annual GSA #GirlsGoGold workshop, delivered by the Youth Sport Trust and hosted by Sheffield Hallam University. The day is designed to inspire, motivate and support girls who are passionate about playing, competing in and studying all things sport.

Following an inspiring key note address by Dame Katherine Grainger (gold and silver medallist Olympian rower, Britain’s most decorated female athlete and the first British woman to win medals in five successive Games), the girls were treated throughout the day to glimpses of life as a professional athlete, with masterclasses covering theory, recreational and practical matters.

As well as hearing from Katherine Grainger, the girls also met Nicola Minichiello, former Team GB and World Champion bobsleigh driver.

One of the highlights of the day was when the girls got to try out “drumba”, a mix of dance, drums and zumba which is bound to be the next big fitness craze.

The girls returned to school, exhausted but inspired #weknowgirlscan
