Usually The Mount’s annual Macmillan Coffee Morning is hosted in the English department for girls in Years 11 to College II. With social distancing restrictions in force this term, the canny girls hosting the event for Cadbury House came up with an ingenious solution. The result was that, this year, the Macmillan Coffee Morning was extended to include the entire Senior School and each year group had the opportunity to take part in their respective Form Rooms, to preserve their social bubble.
The morning was a huge success. Not only did the girls raise £270 to help those affected by cancer, they had a lovely morning and lots of delicious cake. The event was held on Friday 25 September.

In more charity news, girls throughout the school are currently voting on which charities will be adopted as the School Charity of the Year. Girls have collectively agreed within their respective Year groups which charity they will recommend; they will now vote individually on which charity should become the Charity of the Year for the entire School.
The proposed charities include:
- Yorkshire Rose Dog Rescue;
- York Teaching Hospital;
- York RSPCA;
- York Special Care Baby Unit;
- Safe and Sound Homes (SASH);
- Yorkshire Air Ambulance;
- St Leonard’s Hospice;
- Kyra;
- Martin House.
The results of the girls’ vote will be announced shortly.
The school’s charitable work plays an essential role in nurturing our Quaker ethos. Girls at The Mount are encouraged to make a positive contribution to our changing world, to practice empathy and, in the words of George Fox, let their lives speak.
