There is never a dull moment in the Pre-School, with a wealth of activities and learning opportunities taking place. Whether it be painting, dressing up, singing, gardening, learning French or just playing outdoors, children are filled with opportunities to discover and grow. Most importantly, every day is fun!
The day begins with ‘Good Morning’ carpet time, welcoming children into the Pre-School. ‘Dough Disco’ takes place in the morning when all children mould and shape dough in time to music, helping develop fine motor skills. The morning is then divided between free-flow play and focussed topic activities. Free-flow play takes place between the two classrooms and the Early Years outdoor playground. Children select where they would like to play, whilst being fully supervised. This enables children to develop the confidence to independently choose an activity. Structured activities such as topic work, library visits, gym activities or outdoor learning also take place during this time. These focused activities support children’s learning, encouraging them to think creatively, use their imagination, communicate with others, all whilst enjoying themselves.
Children are gradually introduced to phonics and learning sounds. At 11am each day children will practise and learn about the sound of the week. At 11.30am children enjoy a two-course meal eaten in the school dining room. Children dine together, learning to socialise and develop table manners. All of the award-winning food is prepared onsite and provides a healthy and nutritious lunch. Menus rotate on a three-week basis and change each term to reflect seasonal cuisine. The afternoon begins with ‘Good Afternoon’ carpet time welcoming those children who have joined for the afternoon session. The afternoon is again divided between free-flow play and focused topic activities such as French lessons, Forest School or music lessons. Younger children may also enjoy quiet time or even a nap if needed.
