Boarders Visit Friargate with the Principal

Our international boarders enjoyed a trip to Friends Meeting House in Friargate, accompanied by our new Principal, David Griffiths.

The girls met former Principal of The Mount, Barbara Windle, The Mount’s Clerk to Committee, Margaret Bryant, and current Committee member Julian Pattison, as well as old scholars of the school.

The girls also enjoyed a delicious lunch during their trip at a popular restaurant in York’s picturesque city.

It was really nice to go to Friargate. It’s quite different because there are more people in there. Even if we don’t know each other in the Meeting, everyone is very nice. I think it’s a kind place, because people bring babies and little children and even when the children are making noise, everyone is kind and caring,” said Angelina (Year 8). “The meal was lovely at the Chinese Restaurant. It’s nice getting to know Mr Griffiths, he is very friendly.

I enjoyed the Quaker Meeting. I always feel so relaxed when I’m sitting there. The meal was great. Mr Griffiths is nice and a very unselfish host,” said Grace (Year 9).

Friargate Meeting House was first built in 1674 and has undergone several redevelopments since it was first built.
