We are delighted to announce that The Mount School York is partnering with the UK’s newest Netball academy, Elite Netball, to offer an exciting new programme for Mount girls and local netballers of all abilities.
Elite Netball Academy, which was launched in June 2020 by former Leeds Rhinos’ Netball coach and England Pathway selector, Anna Carter, will hold weekly exclusive coaching sessions at The Mount School for Mount girls, followed by a session open to players age 12-15 of all abilities from across the York region.
“We are very excited to be launching a partnership with Elite Netball Academy and that they have chosen The Mount as their exclusive York venue. The Academy offers unrivalled mentoring, motivation and tuition, enabling girls and women to fulfil their netball potential. At The Mount we are very lucky to have high-quality sporting facilities which Elite Netball has recognised,” said The Mount’s Principal, Adrienne Richmond, today.
Girls at The Mount are invited to take part in exclusive sessions with the top-level Elite Netball coaches every Tuesday after school. “Netball is a much-loved sport by Mount girls, they are thrilled to be able to take part in these additional sessions. Elite Netball Academy offers across-the-board support developing all players and driving them forward. Our aim is that all girls have a positive and enjoyable experience of the sporting programme we offer and tat they will embrace sport and physical activities for the rest of their lives,” comments Emma Howell, Head of PE at The Mount.
Elite will also host a weekly coaching session at The Mount open for all girls from across the York region in Years 7 to 10 (12 to 15 years of age) of all abilities on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm until 8pm.
Anna Carter said, “Elite Netball Academy recognises the need for better support for young netballers and aims to create an inclusive community. I want this programme to give all athletes the opportunity to access quality coaching to push their game to the next level and explore their true potential. This partnership with The Mount, as the UK’s only all-girl Quaker school, is a great fit for both parties.”
During the recent national lockdown, Netball and other contact sports changed their rules of play to safeguard the sport against spreading viruses. Returning to match play has been staggered in accordance with government guidelines. Outdoor facilities re-opened on 29 March and on 12 April indoor facilities were able to re-open and Junior netball activities were able to recommence. If public health develops as hoped, from 21 June the modified rules may be lifted, and tournaments will be able to recommence.
Partnering with Elite Netball Academy is another great achievement for The Mount as a leading school in girls’ education, after the School became North Yorkshire’s first school to achieve the coveted “All-Steinway School” status in March 2020.
“Being leaders in educating girls, means understanding girls’ needs,” explains Principal Adrienne Richmond. “As the needs of girls change, our educational offer is able to evolve accordingly. Throughout the School, we offer girls a myriad of opportunities to hone their skills and to try their hand at something new. Our aim will always be to ensure Mount girls are equipped with the skills, ambition, and courage to succeed, in anything they aspire to be whether that is in sport, academia, performing arts or humanities.”
Elite Netball Academy will hold development sessions for girls from age 12 to 15 years on Tuesdays from 6.30pm-8pm. To register, contact firstname.lastname@example.org
