York Literature Festival Winners’ Celebration

Young writers and poets gathered together this morning to read their winning entries for the York Literature Festival’s Creative Composition Competition 2022.

The young creatives had submitted their entries earlier in the year, on the theme ‘Cure’ and been awarded prizes by the adjudicating panel.

Dr Rob O’Connor, convener of the 2022 York Literature Festival and lecturer in Creative Writing at York St John University, said, “The standard of work from people of such a young age was incredible.” He presented the prizes along with York-based children’s author, Dawn Treacher, who was one of the judges.

The winners took their turn to read out their entries, receive their prizes and a certificate. The assembled audience was suitably impressed with the works and enthusiasm with which the young people read their material. “It was lovely to celebrate these talented young people,” said one of the parents.
