IWD: The Power of friendship

“There is nothing like a conversation with a woman that understands you. I grow so much from those conversations.” Beyonce

As we continue to mark International Women’s Day (8 March) we are asking you to thank the female friends in your life.

The bonds and support formed through relationships and friendship with women encourage and empower one another. Where would Taylor be without Selena to cheer her on? Would Beyonce have inspired ‘girls to run the world’ without Tina Knowles?

No matter what stage you’re at in your life the bonds of sisterhood are important to maintain.  To mark International Women’s Day we’re encouraging the Mount community to tell the females in their lives how much they value them. We’re asking our community to take the time to give them a call and tell them the difference they’ve made to them.

Girls On Board

Friendships made at school often last a lifetime, but in our younger years as we grow up and discover who we are they can be tricky to navigate. That is why the Mount School is a Girls on Board School.

Girls on Board is an approach that empowers girls in school to navigate the choppy waters of friendships for themselves. Girls, their parents and teachers are taught to understand the complexities and dynamic of girl friendships. By empowering girls to find their own solutions, parents need worry less, teachers focus on the curriculum and girls learn more effectively – because they are happier.

Friends for life

Most importantly the Girls on Board approach allows girls to build strong and powerful friendships with their peers, who will no doubt be the women who go on to shape their lives.

“The friends I have made at The Mount, really feel like family. They have taught me the true meaning of the word ‘friendship’ and self- acceptance.” Nicole – Sixth Form Pupil
