At The Mount, we believe physical fitness is the key to a healthy mind as well as a healthy body.  Sport at The Mount is therefore about interest, enjoyment and fun, as well as competition and team play.

Sport is taught in all parts of the school, from age 2-18, through the compulsory PE curriculum and additional activities. Sport at The Mount School teaches teamwork, communication, resilience, loyalty and gives pupils a love of engaging in activity.

The Mount’s sporting facilities include tennis courts, netball courts, a large sports hall, indoor swimming pool, fitness suite and large playing fields.  Sports played include; netball, tennis, rounders, hockey, athletics, cricket and volleyball. Outside of the curriculum we offer a range of additional options that reflect the pupils’ interests including; judo, fencing, dance, football, tag rugby, yoga and cross country.

It is our ambition to inspire every pupil’s interests in sport, from complete beginners to aspiring athletes

In the Junior School, from an early age we aim to provide fun, enjoyment and achievement through the range of activities on offer in our Games and PE programme. Junior School pupils take part in team sports including; netball, rugby, athletics and rounders.  They also participate in gymnastics and dance.

Competitive matches are arranged with other local schools as well as entering teams in regional and national competitions. Pupils from both the Senior and Junior School regularly achieve success  in swimming competitions and netball tournaments.  Mount pupils currently represent York, North Yorkshire and Great Britain at netball, cross country, biathlon and hockey. Senior School pupils are also given the opportunity to participate in sport camps.  In July 2017 girls visited Greece for a swimming and netball camp.

Most importantly we want every one of our pupils to enjoy participating in sport whilst at school

Our aim is that all pupils will leave the School having had a positive and enjoyable experience of the sporting programme on offer and will embrace sport and physical activities for the rest of their lives.
