At The Mount School we were all incredibly saddened to hear the news that Queen Margaret’s School has made the difficult decision to close this summer. Our hearts go out to all the pupils, families, staff and friends who are navigating this challenging time.

We know this is an incredibly difficult time, and please know that we’re here to help your family every step of the way. We’re working very closely with the Head and staff at Queen Margaret’s to support families through the transition of finding a new school. It is our desire to make this period as smooth as possible for you.

We understand the deep commitment you’ve shown to an all-girls senior school education at Queen Margaret’s. Like them, we are incredibly passionate about empowering girls. We are specialists in girls’ education and have been at the forefront of providing an excellent education for girls since 1785. We are prepared for the challenges young girls will face during their adolescent years, their time with us, and beyond. We provide an environment where girls and young women not only flourish academically but also cultivate a confidence and belief in themselves.

We currently have both day and boarding spaces available for September 2025, and we’d love to discuss how The Mount could be the right fit for your daughter’s continued journey.

Come & Visit Us

We have spoken to many families and the most common question asked over the weekend has been ‘when is the soonest we can come and visit?’. We feel it is important that you and your daughters see a normal school day as soon as possible and so in response, we are offering several informal ‘Open Doors’ days this week. No speeches or formality, just come and get a feel for the school.

The dates are:

Monday 16June drop in any time from 1.30pm until 4pm We would like to prioritise girls entering or in GCSE & A Level years, although everyone is welcome.
Tuesday 17 June – For new girls entering YEAR 7 ONLY (current Year 6) – please email admissions@mountschoolyork.co.uk for details.
Wednesday 18 June at either 9.30am, 11.30am or 1.30pm – This is open to all years, with a focus on Years 6-9 as a priority.
Saturday 21 June drop in any time from 10.30am until 12.30pm – All year groups welcome.
