Recent Old Scholars Return to The Mount to Inspire Current Pupils

The Mount was pleased to welcome back young alumnae thriving in a wide range of exciting university and college courses, to impart some of their wisdom and experience to current pupils.

The Old Scholars, who are members of The Mount Old Scholars’ Association (MOSA), fondly reunited on their arrival in the morning. They recounted their respective journeys after The Mount – from intrepid travelling during gap years, to a variety of prestigious university degrees, placements and apprenticeships. Then, they wrote letters to their future selves, full of ambition and hope, to be stored in the school archives for their next reunion.

After catching up, the Old Scholars were introduced to pupils in Years 8 and 9, where they spoke fondly of   their time here. They also shared invaluable advice on choosing subjects where pupils’ passions lie, staying organised at school, and exploring the wider world after school days.

The Old Scholars enjoyed a delicious school lunch in the canteen, reminiscing on halcyon days where they used to chat over meals there daily. Next, they headed out to the lawn to compete in the inaugural ‘Games in the Light’, a fun tournament of hula hoop, running and egg and spoon races, with a grand finale of netball!

The day finished in the Sixth Form common room, where the Old Scholars enjoyed parting chat over biscuits. Some staff members popped in, beaming, to say hello to familiar faces.

The day was over too soon, and our visitors went on with their exciting endeavours. The Mount School York was so pleased to welcome back our young leavers and the doors to our school are always open to all our alumnae.

Naomi Kelly, Foundation & Alumnae Officer, said, “It’s so lovely to have our girls in school again. We all enjoyed the inaugural ‘Games in the Light’ and look forward to creating further new traditions. The girls were so inspiring with their diverse paths since The Mount. We wish them every success and look forward to welcoming them back soon.”

Old Scholar Lucky said, “I’m on a gap year and start Maths at King’s this September. I recommend taking some time out if you can. I feel I’m ready to commit to my Maths course after time away and can’t wait.

Old Scholar Maddie said, “I appreciated how the teachers at The Mount care about you at school and really take time to help. It’s not quite the same level of attention at university but I am really enjoying my Geography course.”
