Sports Galore!

The colder weather has not put a stop to girls’ achievements on the sports field.

U14 Hockey v Peters & Bootham

U14 Hockey played drew 0-0 against St Peter’s and played a solid game but lost 0-2 to Bootham at Manor Academy’s all-weather pitch. Planned hockey matches against Durham had to be cancelled for frozen pitches and we hope to have them rescheduled for later in the season.

U12 Netball had a great win against Huntington and while U13 Netball played very well they were unable to secure a win.

Our Swim Squad and U14 / U15 Netball played away against Harrogate Ladies. U14 Swimming won their competition and HLC won overall. The Netball teams played very well and were just pipped in the final result.

Chloe, Amelia and Asta in Year 6 represented York for the North Yorkshire Cross-Country Championships in Dalby Forest. “It was quite hard because there was a very steep hill and lots of branches. Because our race was the last one, the track was really muddy and I remember one girl, not in our team, actually lost her shoe. It was fun though.” – Asta (Y6)

Meeting Johnny Brownlee

Some of our Junior School swimmers met triathlete Johnny Brownlee at their training session. “He was really nice. Apparently he runs past my grandparents’ house every weekend. He told me that my head was going over a bit during my front crawl and I needed to keep it down. I’ve never actually met a famous person before so that was nice.” – Chloe (Y6)

We had to do corkscrew swimming which was really fun and I learned lots of new skills.” – Anabel (Y6)

We learned sighting which was a really good technique and will be useful for swimming in lakes.” – Amelia (Y6)

Congratulations also to U10 and U11 Netball who both won their matches against Minster School. It was the U10’s first ever team match, so well done all!
