Superstar Mount Runner Nya to Represent North Yorkshire at National Cross Country Finals
Mount girl Nya secured first place at the Year 7 North Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Championship this weekend, resulting in her qualification for The National Primary and Year 7 Cross Country Finals in March.
Nya came top against 60 other runners during the race, which took place at Tadcaster Grammar School, taking the lead early and not giving it up. She finished 10 seconds ahead of second place, a comfortable victory that reflects Nya’s dedication and hard work.
When asked about her victory, the talented Nya said:
“I ran a good race, taking the lead early and not letting it go.”
This isn’t Nya’s first victory, she came first in a cross country competition back in November, which led to her qualifying for this race. The 60 other participants in this race also had to qualify through good performances, making her win all the more impressive.
Fiona Newman, Director of Sport said:
“Huge congratulations to Nya. She is one to watch. Calm and quietly confident, she handles each race with a poise and focus far beyond her years. We are delighted to encourage her and enjoy seeing her hard work pay off in competitions.”
After this week’s success, Nya has been selected to represent North Yorkshire in the National Cross Country Finals, which will take place in Kenilworth in March.
With each impressive victory, Nya gets ever closer to succeeding in her Team GB hopes. The whole Mount community is behind her, cheering her on.
