White Poppies For Peace

College girls gave a presentation to the Senior School in Thursday’s Morning Meeting on the significance of white poppies.

White poppies, distributed by the Peace Pledge Union, are worn in the run-up to Remembrance Day every year. There are three elements to the meaning of white poppies. They represent remembrance for all victims of war, a commitment to peace and a challenge to attempts to glamorise or celebrate war.  As a Quaker school, The Mount promotes peace as a central value of the School.

The College girls invited all Senior School girls to contribute their own personal message of peace. These were collated into a mass white poppy which is now on display outside of Tramlines.
