Mount Musicians Perform Music from the Movies to a Full House
The Summer Concert 2026 was an eclectic mix of genres beautifully performed by talented Mount choirs, soloists, orchestras and ensembles.
A packed programme saw twenty separate performances, which delighted a gathered audience of our school community.
Senior choir entertained with film songs including a Disney medley and a wonderful French song ‘Vois sur ton Chemin’ from the cult film ‘Les Choristes’. Chamber Choir performed an emotional piece, ‘Poor Wayfaring Stranger,’ from the film, ‘1917’.
Orchestras and ensembles recreated pieces from ‘Cinema Paradiso’, ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘West Side Story’ to name a few.
Soloists sang a selection of classic songs including pieces from ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, ‘Brave’ and ‘Mamma Mia’.
Juliette, Year 8, shared her amazing version of ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ ahead of her upcoming performance as Fantine in a local York production of ‘Les Misérables’. India, Year 10, will also feature in the production.
A highlight was a piece not yet in a movie but likely to be some day!
Phoebe in Year 9 composed her own delicate piece, ‘Ode to Aeolus’ which she then played alongside friends in the orchestra. She also played a moving version of George Michael’s ‘Careless Whisper’ on saxophone.
Phoebe said, “The concert was excellent. My two pieces went really well. Music staff at The Mount are so supportive. I composed my piece of Music on OneNote and Dr Passmore helped me shape it into a full piece to be performed by our whole orchestra. I’ve been learning saxophone in school for four years now, working through the higher grades and I was pleased with my performance.”
Director of Music, Dr Passmore, said: “With such diverse musical talents in school we decided to produce our very own ‘Music from the Movies’ night and the result was fantastic, with a packed programme of classics and new repertoire. I’m very proud of all the pupils who took part, overcoming nerves to shine on stage.”
