Close Finishes and Camaraderie in the House Swimming Gala
The Years 7 – 9 Senior School House Swimming Gala had moments of high drama, wholesome comradery and personal bests.
Our pool – the deepest in York – is the perfect size for swim competitions and pupils approached today’s gala with gusto. Butterfly, freestyle, back and breaststroke races took place before medley, freestyle and cannon relays, with some finishes too close to call.
Rowntrees were the winners this time with a huge total of 79 points, closely followed by Cadburys, Frys and Terrys.
Director of Sport, Fiona Newman, said:
“Congratulations to all our four Houses. We’re all about participation and giving your all. I’m so proud of all the girls that took part.
We have girls who swim for fun and fitness alongside elite swimmers, racing side by side. It’s so wonderful to see the super speedy swimmers clapping and cheering till the last swimmer has finished the race.
This perfectly represents The Mount’s supportive ethos where our two values: to ‘strive for personal excellence’ and ‘flourish in a calm and caring community’ work together so well.”
