GCSE Results Delight Again at The Mount School York

Bravo to our extremely hardworking GCSE pupils who have achieved an excellent set of results today, up on last year, across a wide variety of subjects.

This talented cohort have impressed The Mount School community where 31% of grades awarded were 8-9 (up from 28% last year) and over 51% of grades awarded were 7-9 (up from 42% in 2025, nearly ten per cent higher). These are all outstanding achievements.

Many girls achieved two or more grade 9s, with some achieving an impressive cluster of 7s, 8s and 9s.

Girls outperformed their predicted grades significantly after working so hard. The value added at The Mount this year saw girls performing half a grade better in every GCSE (+ 0.43). This shows The Mount is continuing its upward trajectory and builds even further on the successes of last year.

All pupils should be applauded but a selection of those celebrating at The Mount today include:

Peggy achieved an outstanding 5 x 9s and 4 x 8s. Musical, playing piano and singing in our choirs, and sporty, enjoying the school ski trip and playing in the netball team, Peggy is a talent to watch. She also achieved a Distinction in LAMDA. Attending The Mount since Year 7, her commitment to York Independent State School Partnership (ISSP) courses and the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) award scheme shows she is determined to reach her goals.

Emilia H’s excellent revision strategy paid off with an impressive 3 x 9s and 5 x 8s. Prowess in music, playing the piano and singing in our choirs, she was also a Year 10 House Captain. Representing the school in netball, swimming and badminton, a DofE achiever and volunteer, she was also a member of School Council, helping shape our school.

Minnie – who has been at The Mount since 2021 – had similarly superb results to Emilia with 3 x 9s and 5 x 8s. A key part of our Model United nations team she was a great representative of our school. Singing in our choirs plus a fearless and talented netballer in our teams, she was also appointed Year 10 House Captain and was a great role model to younger pupils.

Holly H’s dreams have already come true as her excellent set of grades, all higher than predicted, mean she will now fulfil her ambition to study Dance at the esteemed Creative And Performing Arts (CAPA) College in Wakefield, though we’ll be sorry to lose her. Her astonishing dance skills were on display when the school dance club were crowned regional winners at The Great Big Dance Off 2026 and she has consistently excelled at the international Dance World Cup over recent years. We wish her all the best and fully expect to see her appearing on the West End or Broadway in coming years!

Hannah K’s 2 x 9s, 4 x 8s, 2 x 7s plus a 6 are all to be applauded. Representing school and a local club in football, she was a valued member of School Council – where she helped make important school decisions – and was also appointed as a Year 10 House Captain, a great ambassador for school. A key part of our Model United Nations (MUN) team she also demonstrated her excellent public speaking skills.

Performances were strong across all Mount subjects with the following areas worthy of note:

  1. Greek, Latin, Music, Chinese and Russian saw 100% of pupils awarded A grades, all at 7-9.
  1. (In Latin and Russian 100% of grades were 8 or above).
  1. (In Music, 50% of pupils secured the top grade 9).
  1. French saw 60% of pupils achieve grade 9 and 80% achieve grades 8-9.
  1. Geography saw almost 30% of girls awarded a grade 9 and 71% achieved grades 8-9.

The Mount also gives pupils the chance to shine early and have the reassurance of one or two exams already achieved by the end of Year 10. Year 10s were entered for their English Language GCSE a year early with impressive results. For example, three Year 10s were delighted with their early grade 9s and there were a cluster of 8s and 7s! Girls excelled at Music a year early too. For example, Immy was today delighted to receive an early grade 9 in both English Language and Music – a whole year early.

The Mount champions all subjects equally; girls confidently explore subjects that interest them, free from gender stereotypes. Within our happy Quaker ethos, our bespoke curriculum is tailored to inspire and encourage girls’ own love of learning.

Head, Anna Wilby, said:

“I am delighted and proud of how well our wonderful girls have done with these excellent GCSE results for 2026. Bravo! They have put in every effort and reaped the rewards of higher grades than predicted, which is where The Mount consistently adds value.

I wish them the very best for their next steps and look forward to seeing most of them in our Sixth Form. We look forward to welcoming a vibrant mix of pupils to our Sixth Form this September with a diverse array of talents and interests.

Today’s success follows our strong A Level results last week. All our girls should be extremely proud of everything they have achieved, both in terms of exam results and their wider contributions within school. We are proud to offer a diverse array of opportunities where girls learn life skills alongside academics, rewarded by our new, bespoke Ignite Awards programme. A huge congratulations to all our pupils and thank you to our talented and hardworking staff who guided them through the journey.”

Head of Year 11 & Physics Lead, Ruth Levings, said:

“I am so proud of this lovely, talented bunch of girls and all they have achieved. Throughout the year they have excelled in sports, music, drama, public speaking – to name a few – as well as supporting each other through these demanding years. Today, it was wonderful to share in their well-deserved academic success and celebrate the fruits of their determination and dedication.”
