Memorial Bench for Malcolm Turpin

This morning we hosted a heart-felt ceremony to dedicate a beautiful memorial bench in memory of the late Malcolm Turpin.

Malcolm was a highly regarded member of The Mount community. He held many roles in the school, and retired in 2020 as Design Technology Technician a role in which he was an integral part of the Art and Design department for 15 years.

The bench holds pride of place between the Ceramics studio and the veteran beech tree. Members of Malcolm’s family and Mount Staff past and present attended the ceremony. Afterwards family members enjoyed a strolling tour of the school in which Malcolm had been an invaluable presence for so many years.

Malcolm was a kind and talented man. He is missed by pupils and colleagues alike. This bench is a lovely way for us to honour his memory,” said Rachel Milton, Head of Art & Design.

Malcolm was fondly referred to as ‘Super Malcolm’ for his can-do attitude when supporting student DT projects. His competitive streak helped prepare girls for local, regional and national competitions at which they often won trophies.
