Mount Pupil Nya Wins Junior Great Birmingham Run

Superstar runner Nya was number one in a race against 150 runners, mainly all older, completing 2.5k in just nine minutes.

Earlier this month, Nya travelled to the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham to compete in the Junior Great Birmingham Run, no mean feat. The 2.5k sprint race comprised of girls aged 12-15, meaning Nya was 3 years younger than many of her competitors.

Nya spoke on her performance: “It was amazing; I was second for most of the race but overtook first place in the later stages. Performances like this give me more hope of achieving my dream of being a Team GB runner.”

This impressive victory was followed up by a second place finish in U14 1500m Yorkshire County Athletics Association Track and Field Championships, where Nya beat her previous personal best by six seconds.

Fiona Newman, Head of Sport said: “Nya continues to be incredible! To come first overall in one race, and then beat her personal best in the next, is astounding – made all the more impressive by the fact she is far younger than most of her competition. I can’t wait to see her performance at school sports day soon and when she represents the school at the interschool athletics competition later this term.”
