Prep School Children Discover the Strengths of Dyslexia During Pupil-led Assembly

Four Mount pupils courageously spoke of their experiences with dyslexia to an assembly of Prep School pupils.

Hattie, Hetty and Charlotte from Prep School, as well as Hope from Senior School spoke confidently in front of their peers. Each girl told her story, before taking questions from the engaged crowd.

The assembly began with a short film ‘What is Dyslexia’, which features Hope in the lead role and recently premiered in London. The film highlights the ‘superpowers’ people with dyslexia can have, as well as mentioning notable dyslexic people, like Henry Ford and Muhammad Ali.

The film aims to reframe the public perception of dyslexia by celebrating its many strengths. This too was the aim of the assembly.

Head of Prep School, Rachel Capper said: “It was wonderful to see how confident, comfortable and proud the girls were when discussing their dyslexia diagnosis. They got their message across to their friends and peers really well and we are all very proud of them”.

During the assembly, Hope said: “Having dyslexia is only hard if you think it’s hard”, while Hetty said: “Dyslexia is the best thing ever, because if makes me think in so many different ways”.
