We are delighted to announce The Mount School York will shortly be gaining the internationally recognised designation as an ‘All Steinway School’.
This exciting partnership between The Mount School York and Steinway & Sons will see the School take delivery of a full fleet of new pianos from Steinway & Sons. This significant investment in our music facilities will give Mount girls daily access to the highest quality pianos, equal to those instruments found at the world’s leading music schools and conservatoires. The upgraded facilities will provide girls with the opportunity to practise, perform and compose on world-class quality instruments.
The Mount’s young pianists will not only learn on the very best-made pianos in the world, but enjoy benefits including regular masterclasses with Steinway artists and the chance to perform in the recital space at Steinway Hall, in London. Steinway & Sons’ name has been synonymous with the finest pianos since 1853 and a high level of traditional craftsmanship, painstaking attention to detail, and premium grade materials used are attributes of every instrument hand crafted in New York and Hamburg.
Staff and pupils from The Mount will travel to London’s Steinway Hall early in the new year to help select the pianos for the School. The new pianos will then be delivered in Spring 2020, and unveiled at a special concert at the School, more details of which will follow.
Rachel Derbyshire, Head Music at The Mount, said: “We are very excited about the opportunities this investment affords the School and the girls. We have a number of very musically talented girls who will gain tremendously from performing on these top-class instruments. We look forward to welcoming some of Steinway’s artists to the School to perform with our girls in the upcoming years.”
Adrienne Richmond, The Mount School Principal added: “This investment comes at an exciting time for The Mount School. Plans are underway to build a new modern performing arts studio, dance has been introduced to the curriculum across the School and girls regularly excel in music and drama exams. All this alongside our upcoming All-Steinway status reinforces our commitment to the Performing Arts and our belief in the importance of creativity in education.”
