Sensational Showcase of The Mount School’s Dancers

Following months of preparation and hard work, parents, staff and pupils at The Mount School were treated to an evening of dazzling dance performances at our annual Dance Showcase.

On Wednesday evening, a collective of pupils from Years 3 to College and Performing Arts Scholars, delighted an audience of family members and friends with an evening of spectacular self-expression and creativity as the girls dazzled in several group numbers and solo performances.

Years 3 and 4 collaborated to open the show with a fun and energetic number, to Dig a Little Deeper. This was followed by the first solo performance of the evening, a beautifully executed piece by Angelina in Year 9. Talented dancer Angelina, recently placed in the Seniors category and was runner-up for her solo performance in the Northern Schools Dance Competition. She continues to refine her skills during her weekly training at world-leading Dance School, the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in which she was awarded a place earlier this year.

The high tempo and upbeat soundtrack continued throughout the remaining group dances and allowed for the girl’s individuality and enthusiasm for performing to shine through. A range of dance styles were represented throughout the night, including character jazz depicted by Years 5 & 6 in Dear Future Husband and modern jazz from Year 7 with a dance to Cut to the Feeling.

Year 8 performed a modern contemporary dance to a song called New Shoes, which also included a swift costume change! Soloist and Performing Arts Scholar, Ava Lake made the transition in tempo look effortless as she delivered an elegant yet technical lyrical solo performance to Stormzy’s Blinded By Your Grace.

The vibrant technical jazz influenced Year 9 performance entitled Time to Party introduced the third solo performance by Lilia Day. Performing Arts Scholar, Lilia is a regular on stage and represented Team England with her Dance School last year. This evening she performed her competition-winning tap solo, a routine she competes with outside of School.

Closing the group performances, Year 10 performed a contemporary piece to Run Boy Run, and the wonderfully in sync Dance Club delivered a stunning lyrical dance to Salvation, before the entire cast assembled for the finale bows.

Congratulations to all our brilliant performers and to Thank you to Izzy and Leila, the evenings College Comperes and to Miss Newman, PE and Dance Teacher, who once again choreographed a brilliant showcase highlighting the talents of our school pupils.
