The Mount Prep School Named Primary School of the Year 2026!
The Mount Prep School is extremely proud to be named Primary School of the Year for the Yorkshire region.
This exciting news comes after the school was nominated by My Local Awards earlier this year. The award was determined entirely through public voting, meaning we were selected through genuine support and recognition from our local community. Thank you to all who voted.
An impressive accomplishment and a well-deserved honour, the award recognises our bespoke Creative Curriculum and the fantastic work of our Prep School staff – a caring and talented group who go above and beyond to ensure a first-class educational experience for our Prep pupils.
This follows The Good Schools Guide’s glowing review which describes The Mount as “a place of calm compassion in the heart of the city” and said, “pupils we met spoke eloquently and with confidence from Prep School upward. Polite and deferential to a fault, it is hard not to be won over.”

This bespoke approach allows our pupils’ natural curiosity to flourish, teaching them to ask big questions and lead with heart. Combined with our vibrant environment and excellent facilities, it ensures that The Mount Prep remains a truly special place to grow and learn.

The Mount Prep School is for children ages 3-11. In Prep School, we celebrate the natural wonder of childhood by letting curiosity lead the way through our bespoke ‘Explore, Discover, Create’ Curriculum.
By fuelling a natural sense of wonder, the Prep School ‘Creative Curriculum’ empowers inquisitive minds. Guided by specialist teachers, children have time to reflect and consolidate their learning in their own way, allowing it to embed in their imaginations. Pupils gain the confidence and independence to ask questions and share their brilliant ideas. We don’t just ask children to think outside the box – we encourage them to smash the box!
The Mount co-ed Prep School is located in the heart of York, under 10 minutes’ walk from the train station. The Mount School’s leafy 16-acre campus provides girls and boys with a safe place to learn. Prep School children enjoy excellent sports facilities, a swimming pool, an onsite Forest School, & dedicated music and performing arts studios. There is a brand new, custom-built dance studio on site.
