The Mount Prepares Pupils for Life Beyond School Starting with Food…

The Mount proudly prepares pupils for next stages in life. This was marked by The Mount being selected as Finalists in Talk Education’s 2024 Award for ‘Support for Life Beyond School’:

We will soon launch a bespoke College programme with credits for skills and a certificate which will boost personal statements for next stage applications, demonstrating that Mount pupils stand out.

This week pupils learned practical cookery skills from our in-school catering team, Wilson Vale.

Visiting Wilson Vale chefs worked with Ben, our talented catering manager, to launch their first ever ‘Yes, Chef!’ event which saw seven Mount Year 13s make delicious vegetable Thai green curry and hot chicken wings from scratch.

All seven were presented with a practical cookbook, wooden spoon, flask and revision-boosting Haribos. The cookbook explores basics to more ambitious cooking, and includes a section on air frying.

Our brand-new state-of-the-art theatre cooking station was the perfect base for hygienic food prep, stir frying vegetables in woks and housing air fryers to produce moist and crispy, spicy chicken wings.

Ben said, “Learning to cook is essential in this expensive climate, for health and wealth. This selection of recipes was carefully selected to appeal to young people, and their tastes. An important life skill, cooking together is a great way to meet people and set healthy lifelong habits.

Pupil Sian, said, “I’ve had the time of my life today. Cooking with friends is fun (apart from the choking on the onion and chilli fumes).”

Pupil Caterina said, “Cooking is special for me and as a boarder makes me miss my mum who can cook anything but it is great to learn new skills alongside my school family.”

Pupil, Lilia, said, “This has been great insight for uni. This interactive step-by-step tuition sets us up to cook for new friends.”
