World-leading Dance School Acceptance for Angelina

Gifted dancer Angelina, in Year 9, has been offered a place at the Centre for Advanced Training.

The Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) enables young, exceptionally talented individuals from across the region to realise their creative and expressive potential as dancers and choreographers. The scheme provides participants with a high-quality, pre-vocational dance education and training alongside formal education.

This unique opportunity to train in dance alongside her academic studies will guide Angelina toward informed choices about her future endeavours in dance. Successful completion allows Angelina to enhance the core technical dance skills necessary for professional dance training at specialist conservatoire level and/or higher education, depending on her desired career path.

Training will take place weekly at the world-leading Dance School, the Northern School of Contemporary Dance based in Leeds. In 2004, NSCD partnered with the Academy of Northern Ballet to create Yorkshire Young Dancers (YYD), the first national dance CAT in the UK. There is now a total of 10 dance CATs offering pre-vocational dance training to young people across the country.

Prior to the application process, Angelina was introduced to representatives from the NSCD when they presented several Contemporary Dance and Movement Workshops to Mount pupils.
