National Poetry Day

Across the whole school, staff and pupils are celebrating National Poetry Day by participating in a range of literary-focused activities, delivered throughout the week.
Senior School pupils have been encouraged to take part in ‘Poetry by Heart’ – the national poetry speaking competition for schools and colleges in England. Despite the official deadline for entries not being until March 2023, hopeful participants have already been thinking about their favourite poems. The competition involves researching a poem of choice, memorising it, and reciting it to an audience – by heart.
Over in Junior School, the girls displayed some poetry from creative writing class in their bespoke library. The library monitors also helped the librarian, Ms Vervain to create a display of their favourite poetry books to encourage others to enjoy them too. The display, which was curated earlier in the week, proved so popular immediately, that many of the books have been borrowed to be read at home already.
