U13 Netball Team scores the trophy in York Schools Tournament

The Mount Netball teams have once again lived up to the #WeKnowGirlsCan tag as they were crowned champions of the U13 York Schools Netball Tournament on Saturday.

Hosted by Joseph Rowntree School, the tournament saw schools from across the York area battle it out for the coveted trophy as each team showcased their sporting talent and excellent sportsmanship throughout. An opening round against the host team resulted in a 5 – 0 victory for The Mount, setting the tone for the remainder of the morning as they moved on to their next opponents. The second round against Fulford School saw a 9 – 0 result as the girls edged closer to the next stages. With only one more opposing team to go between them and the semi finals, The Mount fought hard against St Peter’s to ensure their clean sweep remained intact. After a bout of fantastic play from both teams, The Mount eventually came out on top, with a final score of 5-3 as they moved to the final stages of the tournament.

The semi-final against Huntington ended in a 3 – 2 victory, as the finals approached. In what could be regarded as the most tense match of the afternoon for The Mount, it was a series of three last-minute goals that determined their win over worthy opponents St Peter’s.

This weekend’s tournament comes in quick succession of last week’s semi-final achievement and third place for the U18’s in the regional finals at Silcoates School and paves the way perfectly for the U15 team who are competing on Thursday 17th in the National School’s Netball Tournament, away at St Olave’s School.
