Pupils Watch York City Vs Leeds United Ladies

To honour the recent success of York City Ladies Football Club, Mount pupils and staff were invited to attend the Minsterbelles LNER Community Stadium debut. In a Yorkshire derby, York Ladies played against Leeds United on Wednesday evening.

The local club continues to make history this season playing in the Women’s National League. The team’s debut game at the new LNER Community Stadium, welcomed a record number of fans into the grounds.

Pupils from across The Mount Junior and Senior School were offered the chance to watch the game alongside their school friends and in the company of over 2000 spectators, each cheering on their favourite Yorkshire team.

The referee’s whistle brought an end to a special night at the LNER Community Stadium, with a record crowd watching the Minsterbelles pick up a point against the league leaders in an even contest. The game ended in a 1-1 draw; the pupils had a fun time cheering the players on from the stands. It was encouraging to see such an overwhelming turnout from our girls, including those who play for the Mount School Football Teams.

York City Partnerships have also developed an exciting new initiative, entitled the BusinessBelles in which like-minded ladies can network with a difference. The new venture will give sports fans the chance to watch the MinsterBelles in action and from some of the best seats in the stadium, whilst raising the profile of the club. The female-only networking events will run alongside match days and allows influential women in York the opportunity to meet up and continue to champion the welcome rise in girls playing football.
