Mount Pupil Nya Wins Cross-Country Against Over 100 girls!
The Mount travelled to York Sports Village to compete in a cross-country competition. Our pupils performed very well and gave their all.
Nya, Year 7, put in an exceptional performance at the event, achieving first place in a race that included 108 other girls.
Modest Nya said:
“The race was really good; it went to plan as I was in first from the start and finished with a good lead.”
Fiona Newman, Director of Sport said, “Nya is a powerhouse. Her running career is really taking off, and we’re pleased to support her training and talents at The Mount. We are very proud of her. Her modesty is a credit to her as she is quietly taking the cross-country world by storm.”
This result reflects the talent and dedication of Nya, who trains daily and is a member of The Leeds City Running Club.
Her recent cross-country victory certainly isn’t her first achievement – Nya travelled to Turkey to compete in a laser run and earlier this year and came third in a national cross-country competition.
These talents have earned Nya the admiration of her peers. Lucy and Evie, also in Year 7, said, “she’s absolutely amazing; she once even ran a 5k in 18 minutes!”
Nya is rightly ambitious in her aims, she is on the road to becoming a Team GB athlete, and her dream is to one day participate in the Olympics. The whole Mount community is behind her.
