A Quaker Foundation

The Mount School was founded in 1785, when prominent Quakers, Esther and William Tuke, wanted to provide a a high – quality, values led education. Today, that legacy continues as Mount pupils lead fulfilling lives that extend far beyond academic results.

Mount pupils enter society as independent, open-minded individuals, confident to speak up. We take pride in nurturing remarkable young adults who don’t just observe the world, they seek to improve it.  As a proud Quaker School, we are constantly thinking beyond the ‘safe’ curriculum to equip our pupils for life, encouraging them to actively take risks and be ‘peaceful disruptors’ for good.

Small buy Mighty, our Community

In a recent survey, Mount pupils overwhelmingly named our school community as the aspect of school life they value the most. This deep rooted sense of belonging doesn’t happen by accident. It is grown within our peaceful setting and guided by our Quaker ethos, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. By fostering an environment where every individual is truly known, we provide a level or personal support that ensures no pupil is ever ‘just a number’.

We believe our small size is our greatest strength. Far from being a limitation, it acts as a springboard for ambition. In a close-knit environment, pupils feel the safety and confidence to look beyond boundaries, knowing they have a community standing firmly behind them as they reach for their goals.

Pioneers in Girls’ Education

In Senior School we are pioneers in girls’ education. We provide an inspirational environment designed specifically around the needs  of young women, as they navigate transformative, and educationally vital, teenage years.  Our girls to leave feeling empowered and confident, believing nothing is beyond their reach.

Our Quaker founders recognised a truth that remains just as relevant today: girls excel in an all-girls environment. By removing social pressures and glass ceilings, we allow our senior girls to take centre stage.

We don’t just teach subjects; we build character. Mount girls leave us equipped with, skills, ambition and courage. They have the resilience to lead, innovate, and stay true to themselves.

While we are proud of the proven benefits our single-sex Senior School provides during the vital exam years, we champion a balanced approach by integrating co-educational musical, sporting, and charitable collaborations to ensure our pupils flourish socially alongside their regional peers.

Day School Enhanced by our Fantastic Boarding Environment

Our small size creates a welcoming community where everyone feels supported. We welcome full, weekly, and flexible boarders from around the world, including Asia, Africa, Europe, and the UK.

Boarding at The Mount is a rewarding experience that encourages girls to explore new interests and make the most of our diverse opportunities. On weekends, we offer a variety of activities, including water parks, bowling, cinema, skiing, historical tours, and self-defense classes. Day pupils are also welcome to join these trips, fostering friendships and creating lasting memories.

Head, Anna Wilby:

“I am delighted to be the new Head of The Mount School . I have so enjoyed getting to know our fantastic pupils, parents and wider Mount Community, and discovering our pupils’ interests and passions.

It is an honour to lead this exceptional school and embrace the Quaker ethos where pupils live adventurously, strive for personal excellence and respect and value each other. I encourage all pupils to aim high whether that be academic, sporting, creative, making their mark in the community, or all of the above. I am a huge believer in holistic education and the balance and harmony that comes from hard work in the classroom and dedication to co-curricular activities. Of course, we want our pupils to leave school with the best grades that are achievable, but we also want them to leave as excellent, resilient and well-rounded people.

I love hearing pupils, past and present, stories of The Mount, listening tor feedback on the wonderful education we offer, and generally getting to know the community to ensure our pupils get the most out of their time with us. I also look forward to meeting and welcoming new families to our wonderful school.

Finally, I would like to extend my appreciation for the warm welcome that I have received at The Mount this year. I have clearly joined a very special place.”
