Fitness & Conditioning Centre Gains New Equipment

The Mount School Sports Scholars from Year 7 to 9 were offered a sneak preview of the new sporting equipment in the Fitness & Conditioning Centre as it undergoes a total transformation.

The fitness suite has had an extensive refurbishment through the summer which has included the removal of a partitioning wall to create a large inviting open-plan gym. The gym now boasts an extensive free weights area with specialist flooring that includes equipment suitable for all ages and abilities as well as a substantial cardiovascular area.

This area will offer scope to provide unique and individualised sessions for the Mount Pupils during strength and conditioning sessions as well as providing an exceptional facility for our sport scholars to further their physical development. The development of this facility now allows us to accommodate a greater capacity in the gym which contributes to an increase in provision for our pupils.

Gym machines, including spin bikes, treadmills, rowing machines and weight racks were installed over the summer holidays as part of the exciting transformation. The girls were impressed by the new equipment remarking: Wow it’s so much better!’ they were particularly looking forward to using the rowing machines and treadmills.

Prior to the official opening later this month, Sports Scholars were asked for their input regarding the finishing touches to the décor, suggesting photos of inspirational women in sports and motivational quotes. ‘It would be good to have a picture of the ‘Lionesses’ to celebrate their success.’

Finishing touches are still to take place in the facility, including the installation of some imagery kindly provided by York City Foundation and we are looking forward to showcasing the facility later this month.

Lindsey Burgess – our newly appointed Leisure Centre Manager expressed, “It is so exciting to show the girls a sneak preview of the gym and its transformation, and I am very happy to hear it looks so much better! We still have a few cosmetic finishing touches to add which will really add to the feel of the facility and it is great to have some ideas from the girls including motivational quotes around the gym. This is an exciting development for our sports facilities, and I am looking forward to showing the Mount pupils all the facility now has to offer, as well as working with external stakeholders to develop our fantastic new gym and its offerings”.

The large investment to create a Fitness and Conditioning Centre is a key part of the School’s strategy to continually update and refresh our facilities and provision for our pupils. The Sports Centre will also be used by York City Football Foundation and their Female-pathway programmes.

In July we announced that YCFC Foundation are operating from The Mount School facilities, opening a brand-new FA Emerging Talent Centre, as well as continuing its Girls-only Development Centres and FA Regional Talent Club thus providing a base for 8–16-year-olds to develop their footballing skills at every level and creating the “Lionesses” of the future.
