International Breakdancing Star Athlete Runs Workshops at The Mount!

For Sports Champions – a great charity where athletes visit schools to raise funds for future athlete training programmes and the schools themselves – we were lucky to be visited by breakdancer Mackenzie Clayton.

Junior and senior school pupils gasped as Mac shared his fearless moves including flips (from standing) and The Windmill. He also achieved some astonishing ‘freeze’ positions, head stands and walked on his hands.

Mount pupils asked excellent questions to get a feel for what it is like being an international break dancing star.

Then Mac stayed and ran fitness and choreography sessions for Junior and Senior School and shared more of his amazing moves.

He said, “It’s important to inspire the next generation to keep going with any physical activity to stay active in both the body and mind.

I was inspired by my dad who was a breakdancer when it first started in the 1980s but you can pick anything to get fit and enjoy yourselves.”

Director of Sport, Miss Newman, said:

“What a treat and what spectacular skills and athleticism! Thank you, Mac, for giving up your time and inspiring us all. We have dancers and gymnasts in school but I expect there will be a flurry of pupils signing up for street dance classes on the back of your brilliant presentation and display.

Many thanks to our families for your sponsorship which will help up-and-coming athletes prepare to succeed and contribute towards PE opportunities in our school such as travelling to the Great Big Dance Off where our dancers head to the final very soon. Best of luck!”

Mac shared how he has won many international solo and duo competitions and has been able to travel the world through this dance/sport, and how he started age 11 and is now mastering it at age 21.

Pupils asked him to show his best moves and questioned him about career next steps and his training regime.

A fantastic day, pupils were energised for the rest of the day, and enjoyed learning about an excellent sport, new to most of them.

We love having a regular and varied programme of visitors into school, alongside our academic lectures, and our pupils always enjoy meeting new people and widening their knowledge.
