After coming sixth in her first ever race in November at Newcastle Racecourse, new jockey Alice this month romped home as the winner of a race in Hamilton, Scotland.
Riding Ben Dikduk, Alice was victorious against 13 other riders.
She said:
“I was absolutely buzzing. This race exceeded all expectations as I was only placed 50-1. I’m so delighted to win my second ever race after coming sixth last time, with my results heading in the right direction.”
Alice has horse-riding in her blood after loving equestrianism since she was 4 years old, a family pursuit. Talented Alice became a qualified jockey, aged only 16, in March 2023, after taking an intensive two-days’ worth of rigorous tests to achieve her dual license (which included holding a squat position with arms outstretched with a bar for four minutes!).
Passing the tests with flying colours, thrilled Alice enjoyed her first race in November 2023. Coming a superb sixth, in her inaugural race at Newcastle Racecourse on Nigel Tinkler’s horse Athollblair Boy, Alice made her family and school immensely proud. This latest result has made us prouder still.
Alice is skilled at three types of horse-riding. She has enjoyed success at Tetrathlon and Eventing over the years, and is now excelling at Racing.
Alice said: “I’ve loved every second. It’s such a fantastic opportunity and I can’t wait to do it again. In the future, I hope to do more racing and then become a physio for The Injured Jockeys Fund.”
We’re all chomping at the bit to see what’s next!
