It’s time to look back on Lucky’s address. Her inspiring speech reminded younger pupils to savour every moment at The Mount, emphasising the power of friendships, sharing laughter and seizing opportunities.
My name is Lucky, and I joined The Mount in Year 9, and despite some nerves I was welcomed with open arms. Coming from a co-ed school, it was really refreshing for all the attention to be on just girls, which naturally, I loved attention!
One of my favourite parts of the Mount is seeing the younger years act as I used to. For example, getting separated in lessons because we were giggling too much as my year and I used to do. This year I started boarding, making The Mount my home, and I really wish I had started sooner. I must say it was quite the experience, helping younger years cook pancakes when they forgot to butter the pan, talking endlessly in the common room, and playing rounders during sunset. This year, boarding has been busy, with activities like paddle boarding, horse riding, ice skating, go carting and trips to the theatre.
This Mount School has taught me a lot about motivation, drive and hard work. The teaching staff here have been the most inspirational and pivotal people in my school journey, and I am eternally grateful to every single teacher that has ever had the joy of putting up with me!
I really need to thank my mum and dad, but I’m not going to. Just kidding! My parents have always somehow seemed to know what was best for me, and always provided me with the best, which is why they chose the Mount. They trusted that I would grow to appreciate the uniqueness of the Mount rather than criticize its differences, and going through that process has provided me with a positive outlook and real confidence with my own differences.
Finishing my 15 years of education, I won’t remember my school journey as 15 years of doing work and tests. Thanks to the Mount, I’m privileged to say that I will recognise school as the place I found real friendships, spent all day every day laughing with friends, offered incredible opportunities and flourished in the safest of communities with a little side of some work, encouraged by teachers who genuinely believe in you, which I know not many can say.
If I have any advice for the younger years, it’s to laugh as much as possible in the moment, because your time at The Mount deserves proper appreciation and you’ll soon forget all the stupid things your friends have said, all the funny pictures, and the silly mistakes you made together.
I would like to say a massive thank you to my whole year group, genuinely the best group of girlies ever. I’ve loved the last 5 years with you, I’m so thankful that we grew up together and will continue to share so many unforgettable memories. I love you all so much. As we take over different corners of the UK and eventually the world, I believe that the heart of our year will always be based in Dalton Terrace, York.
