Well done to our hardworking GCSE pupils who have achieved an excellent set of results today across a variety of subjects. We are so proud of this cohort where 13% of grade 9s were achieved, with 74% of pupils achieving a grade 8/9. 30% of grades awarded were 8-9 and over 45% of grades were 7-9, all outstanding achievements.
We are delighted that the number of grade 9s achieved has continued to increase by 3% since last year. Many girls outperformed their predicted grades after working so hard, showing the value added at The Mount, with 41% of pupils achieving at least one grade 9 at GCSE and many achieving two or more.
Pupils celebrating today include:
Carina who achieved eight GCSEs including 6 x 9s, an 8 and 2 x 6s. Carina couldn’t collect her results in person from China. She sent this message: “I’m really pleased and grateful for my GCSE results. At The Mount I’ve gained knowledge, confidence and learnt how to live adventurously amongst this wonderful school community. Many thanks to all the staff.”
Seren who achieved nine GCSEs including 2 x 9s and 4 x 8s, but it is her wider contributions across school that we value equally here. Seren’s participation in the netball team, winning tournaments in school for Mount teams and externally for York City Netball Club, her parts in school productions including Alice in Wonderland and her talent at Grade 5 Piano show that it is the co-curricular opportunities that also matter and allow pupils to thrive at The Mount. Seren is a great role model for the lower years.
Performances were strong across all subjects with the following areas worthy of note, and exceeding national averages:
- French saw nearly 40% of pupils awarded the top grade 9.
- Science continues to be a strength at The Mount with 30% of Chemistry students and 20% of Biology students securing grade 9s.
- Nearly 35% of students achieved a grade 9 in Art.
- English Language saw 20% of pupils awarded a grade 9.
The Mount also gives pupils the chance to shine early. Nearly 30% of Year 10s who were entered for their English Language GCSE a year early, were today awarded grades 8-9.
The Mount welcomes pupils from across the world, sometimes in difficult circumstances. In this cohort, we welcomed girls with limited English on scholarship places – who sometimes joined mid-year – and were delighted that they performed above expected levels at GSCE. For example, we had pupils from Ukraine and other countries who are very pleased with their excellent results despite English not being their first language.
We look forward to welcoming a vibrant mix of pupils to our Sixth Form this September with a diverse array of talents and interests.
Principal, David Griffiths, said:
“Bravo to this lovely cohort for their incredible achievements today of which we’re all so proud. We are celebrating a wonderful set of results but we’re equally proud of all pupils for their contributions in school and for achieving their absolute best, whatever grade that might be on paper. Enjoy celebrating your success and the excitement of next steps. Congratulations on your achievements under the guidance of talented Mount staff and enjoy the last days of the holidays before your exciting educational journeys continue.
Today’s success follows our amazing A Level results last week where a huge 50% of pupils achieved grades A*- A and 81% of all pupils achieved grades A*- B. Early analysis suggests that this places us as Number One in York for A Level results.”
Deputy Principal of School and Head of Sixth Form, Jo Goudriaan, said:
“A huge well done to all our girls for these wonderful GCSE results.
Pupils have applied themselves to reap the rewards of higher grades than predicted, which is where The Mount really adds value.
The girls achieved to the very best of their abilities which is all we ever ask. I wish them all the best for their next steps and look forward to seeing many of them in our Sixth Form next year.”
Head of Year 11 and Head of English, Adam Dawson, said:
“The girls should be extremely proud of all they have achieved. I’m so proud of all GCSE pupils today but particularly those who have overcome personal challenges to succeed. This is just the start of such an exciting time in their lives as they navigate future paths. A huge well done to all.”
