Mount Pupils Excel in Athletics Competition

On a bright afternoon, Mount girls gave their all in the first round of the York Schools Athletics Competition and proudly celebrated their successes.
The event, held at Millthorpe School, and attended by All Saints, The Mount and Millthorpe, saw pupils who came in the top two for their event, qualifying for the upcoming semi-finals at York University’s track.
Pupils could enter one track and one field event on the day. Our Year 7 and 8 girls did exceptionally well with five girls qualifying through to the semi-finals in shotput, javelin, high jump, 200m, 1200m and 1500m.
A special congratulations goes to Sofia who qualified in both high jump and 1500m, and Jess who used her other hand for shotput due to an injury, and still came second!
Through to the semi-finals:
Fiona Newman, Director of Sport said,
“It’s great to see our girls participating and excelling in athletics. They held their own on Thursday amidst tough competition and we were proud to see them giving everything and reaping the rewards. Others also gave their best and should be very proud of taking part in a competition where the standards were so high. We can’t wait for the next stage of the competition.”
