World Book Day Goes Online

It’s World Book Day today! (Thursday 4 March) Here are some of the fantastic activities the girls have to look forward to today. They have undergone various reading and composition challenges throughout the week for #WorldBookDay2021.

World Book Day is going ahead ahead as normal – more or less – in the Junior School this year. Children are dressing up as a character from a book. Over the course of the week, the girls completed a series of exciting Reading Challenges. One particularly popular challenge this year has been reading to a pet!

In their English lessons today, the children will be treated to a reading of the poetry of the acclaimed children’s poet, Judith Nicholls, read by our very own School Librarian Sarah Moore, who can claim to be related to the poet!

All the children from Year 2 to Year 6 will take part in a virtual consequences-style story-writing activity; each class will write part of a story then pass it on to the next class to continue. The girls are looking forward to the end of the week, when they will share the final version of their collaborative story.

Prepare for the scary story of the ghost of a former headteacher of The Mount School!

In the Senior School, pupils can look forward to an Inter-House book-themed Quiz, also run by Sarah Moore. All Year groups will need to work together over TEAMs in their Houses to solve the questions.

Mr Dawson has prepared a leaflet with optional challenges for the girls to take up, such as dressing up as a character in a book, sending in a photo or video of ‘extreme reading’, and posting a short review of a favoured book.

Senior girls have also enjoyed a Lockdown Reading Challenge, asking them to log details on books they have been reading,  this ends on Monday 8 March, when we look forward to welcoming girls back in to School.
