What a huge privilege to have one of the world’s finest pianists perform for The Mount School community including some of our Music Scholars, plus the local community and visitors who made the journey from further afield.
Paul Feehan’s mastery on the piano keys made for a superb evening that ranks him as one of our finest Maestros@TheMount With pieces from Haydn, Mendelssohn, Chopin & Debussy, thoughtfully interpreted and expertly performed, this was truly a treat for the ears.
We are very fortunate that Paul teaches piano at The Mount as he is renowned across the globe as a pianist, composer and teacher, and has been awarded a plethora of prestigious music prizes over the years including The RJ Forbes, which he won twice.
He runs The Mount School piano courses, the next of which takes place at the end of half term on the weekend of Friday 1 – Sunday 3 November. Pianists of any level are welcome to attend for one or all days.
Using one of our 14 Steinway pianos – as we are one of only 25 all-Steinway schools across the country – Mr Feehan inspires pupils every day.
Mount pupils marvelled at Paul’s mastery and dexterity.
Music scholar Agnes, Year 8, said:
“The speed was breathtaking and the music beautiful. I loved being near the front and seeing Mr Feehan’s skills and finger work close up.”
Maestro Paul Feehan said:
“I still get nervous before every recital!
My advice to pianists at The Mount is regular work, twenty minutes or so of daily, repeated patterns.
My favourite pieces I played this evening were The Chopin repertoire. He wrote so well; they are so instinctive and tear at the heart strings with strong characters.”
Do look out for our next music events as they make for a wonderfully intimate evening of world-class music right on the doorstep. Continuing our piano programme, the next Maestros@TheMount event open to school and the public is a Masterclass & Evening Recital by esteemed pianist, Martin Roscoe. Save the date!
